Arthritis Awareness Workshop Organized by Motiwagars Club in Lucknow

Dainik India news,Lucknow: A workshop on the issues and solutions for arthritis was organized by the Motiwagars Club at a hotel in Gomtinagar. Due to disorganized lifestyles, poor diet, and irregular routines, most people suffer from joint, back, and knee pain.

This problem affects both the young and the elderly. In medical terms, this pain is often due to arthritis. To discuss how to prevent and treat this disease, an awareness camp on arthritis was organized in the capital city of Lucknow on Sunday.

Dr. Saurav Shukla, an expert in arthritis, was the chief guest and speaker at the event. The seminar aimed to educate attendees about the reasons for joint pain and how to alleviate it. Discussions included the causes and treatments for back and knee pain, as well as hip pain.

Dr. Shukla explained that osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disease commonly found in older adults, causing pain, stiffness, and reduced mobility due to the wear and tear of joint cartilage. On the other hand, rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disorder where the body’s immune system attacks the joints, leading to inflammation, pain, and eventual joint damage.

He also highlighted that injuries such as fractures, dislocations, ligament tears, or meniscus tears can cause knee or hip pain. Obesity places additional pressure on the knees and hips, increasing the risk of osteoarthritis.

Dr. Shukla referenced a study indicating that back and knee pain can occur across different age groups. In youth and children, these issues often stem from sports injuries, while in middle-aged and elderly individuals, osteoarthritis can be the cause. He suggested that exercise, a proper diet, weight loss, rest, and treatment from specialist doctors can significantly alleviate the condition. It is crucial to note that the type and suitability of treatment can vary for each individual, so consulting a physician for personalized advice is important.

Research Evidence on Arthritis

  1. Osteoarthritis: Research published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) indicates that osteoarthritis affects over 32.5 million adults in the U.S. alone. The study emphasizes the role of weight management and physical activity in reducing symptoms and improving joint function.
  2. Rheumatoid Arthritis: According to research in The Lancet, rheumatoid arthritis affects approximately 1% of the global population. Early diagnosis and treatment are critical to managing symptoms and preventing joint damage. Biological therapies have shown significant promise in improving patient outcomes.
  3. Impact of Exercise: A study in the British Medical Journal (BMJ) found that regular exercise can reduce pain and improve physical function in individuals with knee osteoarthritis. The study suggests incorporating strength training and aerobic exercises into the treatment regimen.
  4. Dietary Influence: Research in Arthritis & Rheumatology highlights that a diet rich in anti-inflammatory foods, such as omega-3 fatty acids, can help manage arthritis symptoms. The Mediterranean diet, in particular, has been associated with reduced disease activity in rheumatoid arthritis patients.
