Dainik India news :Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha (Assembly) Speaker, Satish Mahana, who attended the CPA (Commonwealth Parliamentary Association) conference in Ghana, spoke on gender reservation during an international forum. He stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to ensuring 33% representation of women in Parliament sends a message that there should be 33% reservation for women in all bodies.
He recounted an instance where a male legislator questioned why he was dedicating one day out of five for female legislators. In response, Mr. Mahana pointed out that in the past 75 years, women legislators had never been given such an opportunity. As an example, he mentioned that there was a female legislator who had been in the assembly for over 20 years without ever getting a chance to speak. Therefore, it is essential to provide the newly elected female members the right and freedom to ask questions.
This emphasizes the importance of empowering and enabling the female legislators to actively participate in legislative processes.
