Vehicles worth Rs 25 crore to be bought for UP Police, facilities to be enhanced
New Vehicles for PSC, Cyber Crime Units, and STF to boost operational capabilities
Harindra singh,Dainik india news Lucknow: In a move to ramp up the fight against crime and criminals with an unwavering stance, the Yogi government has allocated a substantial budget of Rs 755 crore to the Uttar Pradesh Police (Home Department) for the fiscal year 2024-25. This comprehensive budget aims to empower the police force across various aspects, including personnel salaries.
A significant portion, amounting to Rs 25.64 crore, is specifically earmarked for bolstering the department’s mobility through the acquisition of new vehicles. This strategic investment will see the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), 18 newly established regional cybercrime units, and the Special Task Force (STF) equipped with modern and efficient vehicles, enhancing their operational effectiveness.
New Abhiyan Department office to be set up in Chitrakoot with Rs 5 crores
With a designated budget of Rs 5 crores, a new office of the Abhiyan Department is slated for construction in Chitrakoot. The Police Department has received a financial allocation of 25.64 crores, directed towards fortifying the capabilities of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) through the procurement of 120 new vehicles. An earmarked expenditure of 20 crores has been assigned for this purpose, aligning with the prescribed BPRAD standard of the PAC.
The acquisition will be facilitated through the involvement of 24 actively engaged companies. In parallel efforts to combat cybercrime within the state, 18 regional cyber crime units have been instituted. A budgetary provision of Rs 5.07 crore has been set aside for the acquisition of new vehicles, catering to the requirements of officers and staff.
Additionally, the Special Task Force (STF) will incur an expenditure of 57 lakhs to procure 3 new electric vehicles. In a complementary initiative, a sanctioned budget of 5 crores has been allocated for the construction of a new office for the Abhiyan Department in Chitrakoot, under the purview of the Home Department, which oversees Political Pension and Other Expenditures.
Further, the Home Guards Department has been allocated a budget of 20 crores for the construction of district home guard offices on the first floor of four district units, as well as the establishment of district home guard offices in 8 district units. Additionally, a budget of 15 crores has been assigned for the construction of three district training centers under the Home Guards Department.
Over 8.5 lakh CCTVs installed to ensure safety across the state
Building upon the transformative policies of the Yogi government, crime across the state has witnessed a marked decline. Compared to 2016, the year 2023 saw an impressive 87% reduction in dacoity cases, a 76% decrease in loot incidents, a 43% drop in murder cases, a 65% decline in rioting, and a 73% reduction in kidnapping for ransom.
To bolster law and order and establish a secure environment for the citizenry, Operation Trinetra spearheaded the installation of 8,54,634 CCTV cameras across strategic locations. Furthermore, the police department witnessed a significant boost in its personnel strength with 1,55,830 recruitments and 1,41,866 promotions made between April 2017 and January 2024.
Within the framework of the Safe City Project, pivotal locations are outfitted with CCTV cameras, dark spots undergo identification and illumination, hotspot areas receive designation, pink booths are established, and the installation of panic buttons in buses/taxis is actively underway. At present, operational in Lucknow, Gorakhpur, and Badaun are 3 female PAC battalions, with efforts underway to establish an additional 5 PAC battalions in Balrampur, Jalaun, Mirzapur, Shamli, and Bijnor. Concurrently, 6 units of the Uttar Pradesh Special Security Force have been instituted.
Demonstrating a firm commitment to women’s empowerment and safety, 1,699 Anti-Romeo Squads have been deployed across the state. In the unfortunate event of a Home Guard volunteer’s death, their dependents receive a solatium of Rs. 5 lakh. Moreover, the Accident Insurance Scheme offers Home Guards a protective insurance cover of Rs. 30 lakh.
