Illegal Construction Issue in Lucknow: The Agony of Losing Homes and Government’s Responsibility

Dainik India News, 14 April 2024 Lucknow – The demolition of illegal constructions under the Lucknow Riverfront project has filled the hearts of the city’s residents with pain and anger. Homes that people built with their blood and sweat are now being declared illegal and demolished. Understanding the delicate sentiment a woman has for her home is no easy task. Only those who have built and settled a home with their mother, sister, daughter, or life partner can truly comprehend this pain.

The agony of losing one’s dream home overnight can only be understood by those who are going through this dreadful tragedy. Every brick used to build their abode carries deep imprints of their dreams and emotions. A house is not just four walls; it embodies a family’s hopes, dreams, and hard work.

This is happening at a time when the country is just beginning to recover from the devastating COVID-19 pandemic. Many families are still grappling with unemployment and financial crises. The pandemic snatched away the livelihoods of countless people and shook the stability of their lives. In such a scenario, the government’s authoritarian actions have cast a pall of fear and mourning over the people. This is a time for the government to show humanity, not to add more suffering.

Before declaring these homes illegal and demolishing them, the question arises: where were the administrative officials and relevant ministries when these houses were being built? Were they asleep on their responsibilities? If these homes are illegal, then the homes of the officials and ministry people who permitted these constructions should be demolished first. Additionally, the government should refund the money collected over the years for electricity, water, and taxes to these residents with interest.

This incident also raises questions about the reality of the BJP government’s Prime Minister and Chief Minister Housing Scheme. Is all this being done to collect election donations from the companies making the riverfront? A thorough investigation into this matter is necessary.

SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav has expressed his reaction to this issue. Standing with the residents of Pantnagar and Abrar Nagar, he said that the homes of those who have built their abodes with their hard work and labor are being demolished, while those who registered and granted permissions are not being punished. He assured the affected families that he stands with them in their sorrow and shares their sentiments.

Where was the irrigation department when these illegal constructions were happening? Where were their officials? Did those who registered these houses not take bribes? Will the government take action against them? These are many questions that need to be raised. When electricity connections were given, were the papers checked? When the bank gave loans, were the papers checked? If everything was fine then, why is it wrong today? These questions will raise doubts about the government’s intentions and its functioning. Where were those who are supposed to oversee and rectify the system?

The government should reevaluate its policies and plans to ensure that no one’s home and life are destroyed in the race for development.

This injustice must stop immediately. The BJP should not take political revenge on families. We stand with every family and understand their pain.

It’s time we prioritize humanity. Those who have built their homes with hard work should not be evicted without understanding their agony. The government should reassess its policies and procedures to ensure that no one’s home and life are ruined in the pursuit of development.

The fear of becoming homeless overnight can be seen in the eyes of the children of these families. They, who hoped to return to their homes, are now witnessing the collapse of their dream castles before their eyes. These are the same people who celebrated and distributed sweets upon the BJP’s victory. Today, their homes are being destroyed.

The government must understand that a house is not just made of four walls; it includes people’s hard work, love, and emotions. Before demolishing a home, the pain of the lives residing within should be felt.

The voices of these residents of Lucknow must be heard. Their pain, their agony, and their hopes must reach the government. It is essential that humanity is prioritized over politics on this issue.

The government should reevaluate its policies and plans to ensure that no one’s home and life are destroyed in the race for development. The time to stop this tragedy is now, and the government must understand where the mistakes happened and ensure that the right people are punished for those mistakes.

Does the government department understand the pain of the affected families? This injustice must be stopped immediately. The emotions of the public should be respected, and their problems should be resolved immediately. The government must accept its mistakes and take steps to correct them so that no other family has to go through this agony.

During the Lok Sabha elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had given the slogan, “The entire India is Narendra Modi’s family.” The mothers, sisters, and children of those whose houses are being demolished are crying and saying that Modi Ji called us family before taking our votes, and now after winning, he is acting like Bulldozer Baba, demolishing our homes. Someone said, “These Prime Minister and Chief Minister have no family of their own, so they cannot understand the pain of anyone’s family.”

The government must understand that demolishing the dreams of those who have built their homes with hard work is against humanity. It is essential to spread awareness on this issue and understand the emotions of the people.
