Sanskrit is the Mother of All Indian Languages: Amit Shah

Government Committed to Taking India’s Ancient Wisdom to the Global Stage

Dainik india news,New Delhi (Meghna Dhuliya): Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday reaffirmed Sanskrit’s foundational role in Indian culture, stating, “We oppose no language, but just as no one can live apart from their mother, no Indian language can thrive apart from Sanskrit. The stronger Sanskrit becomes, the stronger every Indian language and dialect shall be.”

He was addressing the valedictory ceremony of the Sanskrit Sambhashan Shivir, organized by Sanskrit Bharati at Delhi University’s North Campus Sports Complex.

Highlighting Sanskrit’s timeless relevance, Shah remarked, “Vast bodies of knowledge in yoga, mathematics, grammar, astronomy, and environmental science are embedded in Sanskrit. This treasure must be understood and absorbed.” He added that the Central Government is investing ₹500 crore in collecting, preserving, and simplifying ancient manuscripts to make this knowledge globally accessible.

He emphasized, “Sanskrit predates colonial history, and reviving it is essential to restoring India’s cultural pride. Once you begin speaking Sanskrit, you start thinking in it, and eventually, it flows not just from your tongue, but from your soul.”

Amit Shah expressed confidence in the current momentum for Sanskrit’s revival, saying, “Today, the government, the people, and national vision are aligned in favor of Sanskrit. In such an atmosphere, your work will gain both speed and strength.”

Quoting from statistics, he acknowledged Sanskrit Bharati’s tireless efforts: over 1 crore individuals have been introduced to Sanskrit, 1 lakh teachers trained, and 52 lakh manuscripts documented, of which 3.5 lakh have been digitized. He noted that world-renowned scientists such as Einstein, Max Müller, Nikola Tesla, and Johannes Kepler have admired Sanskrit as a scientific language.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, as the Guest of Honour, added, “Sanskrit is indeed our true mother tongue. While parents proudly celebrate their children learning English, German, or French, the same enthusiasm is not shown when they learn Sanskrit. This mindset must change. If India is to become a ‘Vishwaguru’, the key lies in embracing the wisdom of Sanskrit.”

She emphasized that the Delhi

Government allocates ₹10 crore annually for Sanskrit promotion, with 750 PGT and 3,250 TGT Sanskrit teachers deployed in government schools.
