Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath were present during the ceremony.

Addressing the gathering, President Murmu said, “Gorakhpur is a land enriched with spiritual energy by Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath. The Nath tradition propagated from here has served humanity across India and abroad. This university is a modern centre rooted in our rich ancient traditions.”

She stated that the inauguration of this university is a milestone not only for Uttar Pradesh but for medical education and healthcare services across the country. The President lauded CM Yogi Adityanath for conceptualising and executing this first AYUSH university in the state and emphasised its role in research, development, and promotion of traditional medicine.

Highlighting Gorakhpur’s historical and spiritual legacy, she said that this land is associated with freedom fighters like Babu Bandhu Singh and Ram Prasad Bismil, and institutions like Gita Press, which has preserved India’s cultural and religious heritage for over a century. President Murmu also expressed her happiness at receiving Odia translations of Shiva Purana and Bhagavata Purana published by Gita Press as a memento during her visit to Gorakhnath temple.

She emphasised that Ayurveda, Yoga, and Siddha systems are India’s invaluable gifts to the world. “Lord Dhanvantari is considered the father of Ayurveda, Sushruta the pioneer of surgery, and Charaka of general medicine. The treasures of medicinal herbs in India validate the deep scientific roots of our traditional systems,” she added.

Speaking on AYUSH integration, she said that India has embraced Unani and Homoeopathy systems developed in other countries as part of its inclusive vision of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ (The World is One Family). The university will enhance the global acceptance of AYUSH through research and academic excellence.

Governor Anandiben Patel called it a proud moment for Uttar Pradesh, stating that the university will create new employment opportunities for youth and farmers in the field of traditional medicine. She added that health facilities have significantly improved over time, saving countless lives.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath welcomed the President and said, “Today is a historic day for Eastern Uttar Pradesh. This AYUSH university will not only provide education in Ayurveda, Homoeopathy, Unani, Yoga, and Siddha but also promote research and development, boosting health tourism in line with PM Narendra Modi’s vision.”

CM Yogi also revealed that AYUSH colleges will be established in six divisions where none currently exist, and 100-bed health and wellness centres will be set up in every district, ensuring wider access to Panchkarma, Ksharsutra, and other treatments.
